This is a progress shot of me working on my latest Michael Jackson piece. You can see some of the tedious effort I put into this one. I'd be lying if I said I didn't fight with this one! haha It took a lot of trial and error finding the right technique(Or rather a combination of them!) to get the effect I wanted. In the end though, I learned SO much and really, really fell in love with the piece.

Here, I'm carefully adding white acrylic highlights with a toothpick over the chalk and charcoal to get a bright 'sparkle' look.

The finished piece:

It's very rare that I favourite both the piece and a WIP of it together, but this is a brilliant shot. Absolutely incredible, it actually looks like it stands physically off the page. You have a lot of pateince! :)

Thank you so much! My favorite thing about this medium is how it catches the light! In person, it just pops right out of the page!

You're very inspiring, I have to say. I've honestly never seen chalk and charcoal look as striking and three dimensional as this. Whenever I've tried working with these mediums, everything just becomes messy and undefined. I'd love to see a time lapse of you drawing something like this, just to see how you actually go about doing it and keeping it so tidy and clean through so many hours of work and detailing. Do you use some kind of fixitive on these when they're done? I'd be scared stiff to even breathe near it after so much work haha!

Wow...Thank you so much! Someday I would love to do a time-lapse video! I don't have the equipment to do it, but maybe someday!
I do have a few GIFs of my Work in Progress Scans like this one: [link]

For most of my charcoal pieces, if I can frame right away, I prefer not to use fixative. It absorbs into the chalk too much and tends to dim the brighter values. I'm definitely incredibly careful around them!
